Stretch Mark Creams
There are hundreds of stretch mark creams available today. However, most of them contain the same few ingredients in different proportions. When selecting a lotion or cream, it is very important to pick one that is made by a company you trust. Medicated lotions are not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. Chemicals in medicated creams could seep through your skin and may affect your baby in the womb or through breast milk. So it is best to stick to gentle, non-prescription moisturizers and creams. ALWAYS talk to a doctor before using any product, including over the counter (OTC) ones.
Common Ingredients
Vitamin E is one of the most common ingredients in creams which aim to prevent stretch marks. Vitamin E is generally thought to promote healthy skin and cell growth. Vitamin E can be purchased as an oil, which some people claim is excellent at preventing stretching. Other popular oils used include Flax Seed oil, and even olive oil.
Cocoa Butter Lotions
People have been using cocoa butter lotions for decades to prevent stretch mark scarring and help them heal. There are dozens of companies selling these products, but the most popular is probably Palmer's Cocoa Butter foruma for stretch marks. It is a relatively safe bet, and is very inexpensive compared to some treatments.
Consult Your Doctor or OBGYN
I hate to sound like a broken record, but run everything you are doing by your doctor. The Internet should never be used as a sole source when researching products that involve the health of you and your baby.
